AUGUST "GUEST" ROAST

Roast Details

Union Coffee Co. is proud to offer a unique “guest” roast for August. Our own barista, David, wrapped up his Peace Corps term this year. Among his assignments, David spent time at the Tio Conejo coffee plantation in Colombia working with the planters and harvesters to sustainably raise coffee and improve working conditions for labor. His experience opened up an opportunity for Union with the opportunity to purchase green coffee directly from the growers. Our friend’s at Flight Coffee Co., Bedford, NH, generously partnered with us to roast the beans that we are featuring this month!

Origin

Café Tio Conejo, Colombia

Café Tio Conejo is revolutionizing the coffee production industry in Colombia by providing laborers with a minimum wage plus health, retirement, workers comp, education and health for them and their families. Workers receive free housing and food crops grown at the farm. Children at the farm are enrolled in education rather than being obligated to work.

The farm has created a 2 acre reserve area dedicated to repopulation of native trees. Coffee pulp is recycled into fertilizer and a water recuperation system eliminates up to 90% of the waste produced in the coffee production and prevents water contamination.

Be sure to stop by the café this month and order a cup of Tio Conejo while it lasts!
